Drinking Experiences of Female College Students

Abstract
Purpose: This purpose of this study was to explore the experience about drinking culture of female college students.

Methods: The data were collected through focus group interviews with participants¡¯ consents. Two focus groups were interviewed by the researchers on the basis of the in-depth data. The interviews were recorded by audio tapes and later transcribed. The data were analyzed with the use of phenomenological methodology developed by Colazzi. Formulated meanings were established in a systemic way according to significant statements. Themes were extracted to formulate a variety of meanings. Theme clusters were extracted from such themes.

Results: Experience about drinking culture of college students was analyzed through 7 significant theme clusters and 14 themes built on total 58 formulating meanings. The 7 theme clusters were the following: ¡´Contributing interpersonal relationship¡µ, ¡´Perceiving as one of their university life parts¡µ, ¡´Compulsory-obsessive feeling¡µ, ¡´Taking on reckless challenge¡µ, ¡´Being out of self-control¡µ, ¡´Solving the stress problem¡µ, ¡´Being the self-abstinence¡µ

Conclusion: The analytic conclusions indicated that drinking culture of college students is integral for their everyday life, and has something close to do with strong interpersonal relationship with people. And, it was found that drinking culture has required self-control.
